The viral claim is false that Hindu Mahasabha took out a procession of Godse and burn the Indian flag. In our investigation, we fond that the photo was clicked when activists of “ShivSena” were protesting against the militant activities of Pakistan’s army in Jammu.
India marks the death anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, as Shaheed Divas every year on January 30. On 72nd death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a screenshot of news related to Gandhiji's death anniversary becomes viral on social media in which some people wearing saffron-colored clothes can be seen with burning Indian flag. A picture of Gandhiji's killer Nathuram Godse can also be seen behind them. It is being claimed that the Hindu Mahasabha took out a procession to honor Godse and burn the tricolor.
A Facebook user name Aman Chouhan shared the picture in which the caption above the picture shows "how many Muslims are burning the tricolor?"
The heading of this news is, 'Hindu Mahasabha took out procession of Godse, burn Indian flag'. However, later this post was removed from the website. But the Sinopsis seen on this post, "While the country was celebrating Gandhi ji's death anniversary, on the other hand".
In the investigation, we found that the viral photo was made with the help of photoshop. In the real picture, there was Pakistan’s flag in the hand of protestors, not an Indian flag. And people who are being told to be members of Hindu Mahasabha are actually they are workers of “Shivsena”.
We found a similar picture on the Facebook page named Shiv Sena J&K posted on 26 July 2015 in which people can be seen with the flag of Pakistan.
Using related keywords, we also find a news article of Kashmir In-Focus posted on . According to the article, activists of Shiv Sena held a protest against militant activities by Pakistan and burnt a Pakistani flag. Led by party leader Rakesh Gupta, Sena workers also shouted slogans against Pakistan. They also targeted the BJP-PDP government in the state for alleged “inaction” against the people waving ISIS and Pakistani flags in public.
After doing Comparison of both the viral and real picture it was clear that the photo was made by using photoshop. In the real picture, there was Pakistan’s flag in the hand of protestors not the Indian flag and picture of Godse also edited in the viral image.
In conclusion, the viral claim is false that Hindu Mahasabha took out a procession of Godse and burn the Indian flag. The image is made with the help of photoshop. In the original picture, the Pakistani flag is there in place of the Indian flag and Godse picture has also been edited.
