A five-year-old video of Amit Shah has been revived before the upcoming Delhi elections in which Home Minister is accusing Aaj Tak of ‘Yellow journalism’ and asking voters to not believe the channel’s polls.
The Delhi Assembly elections will be held on the 8th of February. Amid the campaigns by political parties, a video surfaced on social media with a claim that the Home Minister Amit Shah has asked the people of Delhi to not watch a popular Hindi news channel, Aaj Tak because it supports the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
You can watch the viral video here:
A Twitter page named 'Dil se Desh' shared the video along with the caption, "Home minister @AmitShah asks people of Delhi not to watch @aajtak this is being seen as a great set back to @anjanaomkashyap and@chitraaum sad but true !!
The same video was shared by twitter page 'History of India' with similar claims.
At the time of writing this article, the video has been shared more than 1200 times.
In the video, Amit Shah can be heard making claims in Hindi that can be roughly translated to, “Aaj Tak has undertaken the agenda that AAP should win. Delhi’s people are with BJP. Aaj Tak channel wants AAP to win at any cost which is why Delhi’s voters should not trust any reports by Aaj Tak, don’t believe them…This is a straightforward allegation and I say inside the press conference that Aaj Tak’s agenda is to launch AAP and there is no greater example of yellow journalism.”
In our investigation, this video turns out to be real, i. e., Amit Shah made these statements but 5 years ago in 2015, not in 2020.
With the help of keywords search, we found a tweet by Akhilesh Mishra, CEO of BlueKraft Digital Foundation.
On further investigation, we found a video titled "We will free Bihar from ‘Jungle Raj’: Shri Amit Shah: 24.01.2015” to be uploaded on BJP's YouTube channel. The viral portion can be heard from 21:10 minutes.
The video is of a Press Conference in Patna during the Bihar legislative elections in October-November, 2015.
In conclusion, a five-year-old video of Amit Shah has been revived before the upcoming Delhi elections in which Home Minister is accusing Aaj Tak of ‘Yellow journalism’ and asking voters to not believe the channel’s polls.
