What's required to make a Fake news viral. A fake image of someone of high profile shared by an account with a lot of followers. All was there when Comedian Kunal Kamra who is often considered a left-wing man, shared a picture of Gautam Gambhir, Irfan Pathan, Jatin Sapru on his twitter handle. The incident is of July 6, when the comedian shared a photo-shopped picture titled, "*BJP MP apni constituency main gambhirta se kaam Karte hue* " taking a dig at Gambhir. Gautam Gambhir is a former cricketer and currently, a member of parliament from East Delhi Constituency.
The tweet which garnered nearly 13k likes and 2k RTs was a joke directed at Gambhir's dual role, as a cricket commentator and an MP. The presence of the saffron attire created confusion for a few fans who thought Gambhir was promoting BJP at World Cup. People started bashing Gambhir for the actions he has not done.
Sooner Kunal Kamra realised the confusion that was created by his tweet and shared a fact-check article done by DNA. The image tweeted by Kunal Kamra is a photoshopped image. The original image dates back to June 25 and was shared by Irfan Pathan through twitter. Although Gambhir was present in the picture he was not in any saffron attire and by no means was promoting BJP at the World Cup Event.
Conclusion: The viral picture of Gautam Gambhir wearing a saffron turban is photoshopped.
