  • Share

Summary

No, ISKCON hasn't appealed its followers to vote for Mamata Banerjee in the upcoming Lok Sabha election. ISKCON is no way associated with the viral video being circulated on social media.

A video was uploaded on YouTube on March 29, 2019, by Sangbad Pratidin, a Bengali news publication with a title "ISKCON supports Mamata Banerjee for Lok Sabha polls". The video explains how Srilabhakti Vinoda Thakur predicted a grand temple at Sridham Mayapur, (headquarters of ISKCON), in Nadia district of West Bengal. The video further explains how Srila Prabhupada ordered his disciples to get a few hundred acres of land in Mayapur to build an international city. The video explains how the devotees were trying for it from the last few decades.

The video then highlights the role of Mamta Banerjee in fulfilling this dream of the devotees who had removed the ‘land ceiling’ which allows ISKCON to build this international city in 750 Acres of land. The video ends with an appeal to ISKCON followers to ‘vote wisely for the leader, who stood beside them during the hour of the crisis. As the appeal is made, a picture of a smiling Mamata Banerjee flashes on the screen, with 'Jai Shree Krishna' chants from followers in the background.

India Today published a report about this video to highlight how TMC has finally found a counter to BJP's Jai Shree Ram slogan.

A Bengali News portal TDN Bangla also published a story covering this video. You can read their report here which is in Bengali.

Another Bengali News portal Sangbad Pratidin published a similar report.

ISKCON Denied Association with the viral Video

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness’s (ISKCON) has released a press release to distance itself from the viral video. In the media release ISKCON said that it is politically neutral and does not favour any political party or candidate.

Yudishtir Govinda Das, National Director of Communications, ISKCON said that the media reports are misleading and we would like to unequivocally state that ISKCON has no involvement whatsoever in the production/dissemination of the said video".

Here is the entire statement released by ISKCON.

A Twitter user @pokershash highlighted it on social media that how TMC has mischievously created this video to influence the voters just before the Lok Sabha election.
