Fact Check : Twitter claims that Indian spy drone was shot down by Pakistan, proven fake.

  • Share

Summary

A Pakistani journalist working for a news agency called Dawn falsely claimed that Indian spy drone was shot down by the Pakistani Army.

Many Pakistani Twitter users shared a picture of a crashed drone and made claims that it is an Indian spy drone which was shot down by Pakistan. It was first shared on Twitter by Tariq Naqash who is a Pakistani journalist working for a news agency called Dawn. He had also mentioned in his tweet that this drone was found in Kot Kotehra village along the Line of Control in Khuiratta sector of “Azad Kashmir’s” Kotli district.  His tweet was picked by other users as well.

However, sooner many proved him wrong that it is indeed not an Indian drone. This led to him saying that he had attached the wrong picture but he still stands by his point.

No Official Confirmation

However, no official source from India or Pakistan has confirmed this claim. His claim can be proven fake by a simple reverse image search on google.

The first result of the reverse image search is an NBC News report which led to the conclusion that the drone was a Predator B “Reaper” drone that had crashed near Arizona mountainside near Nogales.  This however happened back in 2006.

According to reports, it is also confirmed that as of now, India does not use any American Drones and only plans to use American drones are underway. The request letter for 22 Sea Guardian drones was sent by the navy in 2016. The deal is said to be concluded by 2019. Thus it is evident that the news spread by pro-Pakistani social media users about Pakistan shooting down an Indian drone is false.
