An image showing BKU leader Rakesh Tikait and his follower's faces blackened in being widely shared on social media to falsely claim that their faces were blackened in Rajasthan.
Recently, an image showing union Home Minister Amit Shah passing through a narrow passageway which has 'Room Number 13 Savita Rani Sonagachi' written on the wall claiming that Shah paid a visit to Kolkata's Sonagachi, an area which largely inhabited by sex workers.
A Facebook user shared the image with the caption in Hindi that can be roughly translated to, "Asia's largest prostitution hub. #Sonagachhi The Thai people started their journey in India only with Sonagachi".
This image is being widely shared on Facebook and Twitter with the same narrative.
The image is being shared in the backdrop of the West Bengal assembly elections. The state has completed four out of the eight phases of assembly polls.
In our investigation, we found that the viral image is morphed. The original image shows Shah participating in a door-to-door campaign in Bhowanipore, for BJP candidate Rudranil Ghosh.
With the help of reverse image search, we found this image in a tweeted by Amit Shah along with three other images on April 9, this year. The caption with the images reads, "Few more from Bhabanipur’s door-to-door campaign. #BJP200PlusInBengal."

In conclusion, an edited image of Home Minister Amit Shah is being widely shared falsely claiming that Shah campaigned at Sonagachi, a north Kolkata neighborhood that is largely inhabited by sex workers.
