  • Share

Summary

An edited and cropped video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement is being widely shared on social media platforms.

A Picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit wearing Islamic skull caps is going viral on social media with a claim that the BJP is indulging in appeasement politics to get votes from Muslims ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections.

A Twitter user name Shaikh Farha shared the post with a claim that "You can do that, I m pretty sure about it bro, just by skullcap, you can't say that's Muslim... Isn't it?? Good day, Bro."

Fact Check

In our investigation, we found that the viral image is morphed. In the original image both PM Modi and Amit Shah are not seen wearing skull caps

After doing reverse image research on Google, we found a news report of News18 published on 28 August 2019 which carried the same image. The image was taken from outside former Union Minister late Arun Jaitley’s house where PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah leave after paying their condolence to the family members.

The image has been captioned as,PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah leave after paying their condolence to the family members of former finance minister late Arun Jaitley, at their residence in New Delhi".

We also found the same image on  PTI archives uploaded on 28 August 2019.

We compared both the viral and real image images and found that the image is photoshopped.

In conclusion, a morphed image of Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah wearing an Islamic skull cap has been shared on social media with a claim that the BJP is indulging in appeasement politics to get votes from Muslims ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections.
