An unrelated video showing a religious event organized by Morari Bapu at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi in 2016 is being shared with a false claim that it shows visuals of the BAPS temple, the first Hindu temple which is being built in Abu Dhabi. As per reports, the BAPS temple is expected to be completed in 2023.
Recently, a 55-second long video clip surfaced on social media claiming that it shows the first Hindu temple built in Abu Dhabi. It is being further claimed that Sultan Sheikh Muhammad's wife can be seen walking while holding Ramayana on her head and Indian spiritual leader Morari Bapu accompanied them.
A Twitter user share the video with a caption in Hindi that can be roughly translated to, "Sultan Sheikh Mohammed built the first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi, as promised to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. * Sultan's wife Begum is going towards the temple with a copy of the Holy Ramayana on her head, and Sultan Sheikh Mohammed, Ram Katha reader, H. P. Morari Bapu is also visible."
The same video is also doing rounds on Facebook with the caption in Hindi.
In our investigation, we found this claim to be false. The video does not show BAPS temple which is being built in Abu Dhabi and the structure is still under construction This video shows a religious event organised by Morari Bapu at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi. Also, the woman carrying the holy book of Ramayana in the video is not Abu Dhabi Sultan’s wife.
With the help of reverse image search using the keyframes of the video, we found this video uploaded on a YouTube channel on September 24, 2016.
Taking a hint for this and on performing relevant keyword searches, we found another video showing similar visuals. The video was uploaded with the title, "Day 1 - Manas Kishkindha Kand | Ram Katha Abu Dhabi - Katha 780 | 17/09/2016 | Morari Bapu."
When we searched further, we found some information Morari Bapu website, we found that Morari Bapu organised this event in Abu Dhabi between 17 and 25 September 2016.
Also, in an interview in 2016 with ABP news, Morari Bapu clarified that the woman carrying Ramayana on her head is not Sultan's wife but a daughter of one of the volunteers in his organisation, named Siya.
Gulf News published an article in February 2018 reporting that Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi had never attended this event of Morari Bapu.
The Hindu published an article in October 2020 stating that the foundation stone of the temple was laid in April 2019 and work started in December. According to a report in Khaleej Times, Abu Dhabi's first traditional Hindu temple is expected to be completed in 2023.
