  • Share

Summary

An old image from February 2017 showing Jat women protesters on way to Jassia village during their agitation for reservation in Rohtak is being falsely shared in relation to the ongoing farmers' protest.

Recently, a video has surfaced on social media platforms showing a fight with a claim that a Hindu family was beaten up by Muslims for playing religious songs on loudspeakers.

A Twitter user named Yogi Gade shared the video with the caption saying, "Women beaten by goons in A.Nagar Surya Nagar for performing aarti om speakers in the temple. These women dint get corporations from @NagarPolice Tofkhana & these women were only arrested. justice needed. @NCWIndia @OfficeofUT ji @neelamgorhe tai. Women Safety."

The viral video shows some armed men hitting women outside a house.

Some caption shared with the video says the women were beaten by "minority community" because they were performing Ganpati pooja, who objected to the same

The video was shared on a Facebook page with a caption saying, "Ganpati Pooja, regularly performed by local women at Tapovan in Ahmednagar was bothering a few boys from the minority communities who then took objection & inhumanely beat the women & asked them to stop performing aarti. Is #Maharashtra slowly going the West Bengal way?"

This post received almost 100 reshares.

However, Ahmednagar police denied the communal angle and said that the fight was due to personal reasons and there is no religious angle to the same.

The caption claimed that the incident happened in Surya Nagar in Ahmednagar and on checking the official Twitter page of Ahmednagar Police, we found a tweet by Ahmednagar Police dismissing any communal angle to the incident.

In response to a Tweet, Ahmednagar Police wrote, "This is a family dispute between neighboring families over the disposal of garbage. There is no religious angle to this incident. Already necessary legal action taken. Please don't spread and forward such rumor messages creating disharmony. If found so necessary legal action will be taken."

We also reached out to Ahmednagar Police who confirmed to FactHunt that there is no communal angle to the incident. AI Kiran Surse said, "It is true that both the parties belong to different communities however, the fight took place due to personal reasons. Police have arrested people from both sides who were involved in the incident."

In conclusion, Ahmednagar Police confirmed that a viral video showing women beaten by armed men is being shared with a false claim. The police have dismissed any communal angle and said that the fight took place due to personal reasons.
