Fact Check: Edited image of Kamala Harris falsely show her wearing this blue sari

  • Share

Summary

A photoshopped image of Kamala Harris wearing a blue sari is being widely shared on social media platforms in the backdrop of her appointment as the first Asian-American, the first African-American, and the first female Vice President of the United States.

In the backdrop of the recent election in Bihar, a video has surfaced on social media platforms a man influencing voters inside a polling booth is being widely circulated claiming that this is from the recently concluded Bihar elections.

The video was shared on a Facebook page named 'Aap Tak' with a caption that can be roughly translated to, "This is how BJP won in Bihar elections?". This post has been reshared over 200 times.

Many other Facebook users are sharing the same video claiming the same and those posts have received thousands of reshares.

In the video, one can see a man seen walking into the polling compartment thrice as voters enter to cast their votes.

The truth behind the claim

In our investigation, we found this claim to be false. The video dates back to last year and is not from Bihar, but from the 2019 Lok Sabha elections where a polling agent at Asaoti in Faridabad, Haryana, was caught on video casting votes illegally. He was later arrested.

With the help of a reverse image search on Google, we found many news reports carrying the screengrab of the video. As per the reports published in May 2019, the incident took place during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections at Prithla in Asaoti under the Faridabad Parliamentary seat.

We also found an NDTV clip on YouTube with the same video.

It was later confirmed by the District Election Office of Faridabad through Twitter that the person was arrested.

In conclusion, an old video from the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Faridabad is now being shared with a false claim that it shows a polling agent influencing voters in recent Bihar elections.
