Fact Check: Did India’s imports from China increase by 27 percent between April - August?

  • Share

Summary

India's imports from China decreased by 27.63% whereas India's exports to China increased by 27% during April-August.

A video is being shared virally on social media platforms where a Maulavi is being thrashed after he molested a woman. This video is being shared by Indians on social media with no reference to the place where the incident took place, therefore, naturally making it seem as if it is from India.

A Twitter user Om Prakash Rawat shared the video with a caption "Maulvi molesting a girl in a moving bus! The girl slapped him and demanded an apology. Salute to the brave sister".

The link to the above tweet was shared on Facebook as well.

The captions of most of these posts are similar and roughly translates to, “Maulvi molesting a girl in a moving bus! The girl slapped him and demanded an apology. Salute to the brave sister”.

In order to verify this viral claim, we did an online search using keywords such as ‘Maulavi’, ‘harass’. ‘girl’, ‘bus’, etc, and found an article from Pakistan Times that reported this incident from more than a year ago. According to the report, the man is reportedly a CSS officer as well as a hafiz-e-Quran and he was asking the girl to delete the video that she had taken calling him out after he tried to “remove her dupatta from her back and tried to grab her body with force”.

In conclusion, not only is the video highly misleading, but it is also very outdated. The video is from Pakistan and not India and since it is not mentioned, it is being misled by several Indians that it is from India. The video can be seen as a propaganda tool to spread unnecessary hate as there is no reason to bring back a year old video from Pakistan to make it seem as though it is from recent times in India.
