Fact Check: A disturbing from July resurfaced on social media targeting Yogi Adityanath Govt

Summary

An old video of a horrific incident in which a gangrape victim and her mother were crushed to death by one of the accused from July 2020, revived on social media targeting Yogi Adityanath government. 

A disturbing 12-seconds video surfaced on social media platforms showing the dead bodies of a daughter and her mother lying on the streets while people surround it. 

The video was shared by a user named Surya Pratap Singh on Twitter with a caption in Hindi that can roughly be translated to, "When the gang-rape victim and her mother went to the police station to write a complaint in Kasganj, both of them were crushed to death."

At the time of writing this article, this post has been retweeted over 3800 times. 

Another user Suresh EsakkiPandi also the video with the same claim. 

A Facebook user shared screenshots of tweets in which this video was shared with a caption "The woman and she gang-rape victim daughter were crushed to death when they went to file a police complaint in Kasganj(UP)."

A number other users are sharing the video with the same claim on Twitter.

We found that the claim shared with the video is true however the incident is not a recent one but from July 2020. 

We found an India Today report published on July 20, stating that a gangrape victim and her mother were killed after one of the accused ran over them with a tractor in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj district. The accused, identified as Yashveer, was arrested the next day of the incident and a murder case was registered against him.

Reportedly, the Kasganj Superintendent of Police said the murder was the fallout of a feud between the victim's family and the accused's family.

Kasganj Police also responded to one of the tweet saying that the incident is an old one and the accused has been arrested and sent to jail. 

According to the India Today report, the dead bodies of mother and daughter were placed on streets by the villagers, who then staged a protest demanding immediate arrest of the accused. One of the relatives of the victim said the two were killed when they were returning from a market.

In conclusion, an old video of a horrific incident in which a gangrape victim and her mother were crushed to death by one of the accused from July 2020, revived on social media targeting Yogi Adityanath government.
