Recently, a set of images is being widely shared on Twitter allegedly showing the death of a woman due to 'love jihad'. The images is being shared with a claim that a woman named Prerna Vyas married a Muslim man named Sameer Khan, and now Vyas is dead as a consequence of marrying a Muslim man. 

Three images including an image of a young woman, a wedding card, and a dead body are being widely shared on Twitter with a caption in Hindi that can be roughly translated to, " Finally, Prerna Vyas crossed the last step of love jihad. At the time of 'Nikah', she was in the headlines and now again she is in the headlines and has left the world. Anyways, people call has religiously intolerant and they believe all Muslims are not the same. This is the result of increasing brotherhood." 

This tweet has been reshared over 240 times. 

A number of other users have shared the images with the same caption. 

The images are on Facebook as well with the same claim. 

The truth behind the claim 

In our investigation, we found this claim to be false. 

Image of the woman 

With the help of reverse image search, we found that the woman whose picture is being widely shared is not Prerna Vyas but a Telegu actress named Summiyya Muhammad. The viral image along with other images of the actress was carried by Indiaglitz.com.

Image of the corpse

A reverse image search of the photo of the corpse led to a report by DNA, which carried a larger version of the viral photograph. The report stated the incident was suspected to be a case of honor killing. The body was found near the Burdwan district in West Bengal. The girl was killed to prevent her from getting married to a Hindu boy on August 31, 2018.

"The father of a Muslim girl allegedly strangulated his daughter and then mutilated her head with a stone before dumping her body on the highway," reads the report.

The wedding card shared in the viral posts, names a Muslim Man and a Hindu Woman. However, news reports stated the woman in the photo belonged to the Muslim community.

Moreover, the date of the wedding as mentioned in the invitation card is October 22, 2019. Therefore, it is not connected to the West Bengal incident which occurred a year earlier in 2018.

On putting the wedding card through Google Reverse Image Search and keyword searches, we could not find any authentic source but this card has been in circulation on social media since 2019. 

In conclusion, unrelated photos of a woman, a woman's corpse, and a wedding card are being circulated on social media with false communal claims.
