A photograph of a crashed chopper is being shared by several Pakistani social media users, claiming that a Mi-17 helicopter has crashed in Ladakh, where India and China are currently engaged in a tense stand-off at the Line of Actual Control.

Pakistani journalist Mubasher Lucman shared an image on his verified Twitter handle and wrote, "Indians please check is this your M 17 crashed in Laddakh? We will keep you posted of any developments".

The same picture is also getting viral on Facebook with the same claim. 

Fact Check 

In our investigation, we found the viral claim is false. The image is from April 2018 regarding an IAF chopper crash in Kedarnath, Uttrakhand. 

After doing a reverse image search on google and using related keywords we found a news report of India today in which a similar image is used. The title of the article reads "Indian Air Force helicopter crashes in Kedarnath".

According to a report of Times of India, published on April 3, 2018, One person was killed and three others injured when an Indian Air Force (IAF) cargo helicopter caught fire while landing in Uttarakhand’s Kedarnath. The MI-17 helicopter caught fire after it hit an iron girder while it was attempting to land in a helipad near the Kedarnath temple.

We also found a Live video of the crash, published by NDTV on its youtube channel in April 2018. The description of the video reads "A transport helicopter of the Indian Air Force crashed after it hit an iron girder while trying to land at a helipad near Kedarnath temple in Uttarakhand today. All passengers are safe and only faced minor injuries. The entire accident was captured on camera".

In conclusion, the viral Image showing the crash of an Indian Air Force Mi-17 helicopter in Ladakh is an old one. This two years old image is from an IAF chopper crash in Kedarnath, Uttrakhand.
