Unni S Nair is not an imposter or RSS guy as claimed by some users on Twitter. He is an ex-army man who just wanted Kerala Government to give complete freedom to Army in relief and rescue operation.
On 18th Aug, a video went viral on social media. In the video, a man in uniform can be seen saying
"I am recording this video with sadness. Kerala CM Pinarayi, what do you think about the Army? Do you think they are coming to administer the state? Don’t you have any sensible minister? Is Kodiyeri the only one sensible among you? He seems to have had a bad experience with the Army, but don’t think the whole Army is like that. My family has been stuck in these floods for 4 days. None of the rescue teams have reached there yet. Only the locals are helping out. Please. I never thought that you will be so insensible, Why are you doing this? Do you not value the people? Or is it just about the votes?"
Indian Army tweeted "Imposter wearing Army combat uniform in video spreading disinformation about rescue & relief efforts. Every effort by all & #IndianArmy aimed to overcome this terrifying human tragedy. Forward disinformation about #IndianArmy on WhatsApp +917290028579. We are at it #KeralaFloods"
So, who is the man in the video?
Some users have claimed that he is an RSS guy dressed up as an army man to spread misinformation about Kerala. Arjun Ramakrishnan Tweeted
"BJP's mahila morcha spreading video with sanghis dressed up as army man, to create panic and tension during flood relief. @adgpi confirmed that the person is fake. #RSSInKERALA insults army and endangers rescue operations with such false propagandas. #KeralaFloods"
But the above claim is not true. Many other users on Twitter has revealed his identity. His name is Unni S Nair, who is an ex-serviceman and working with the Defence Security Corps in Tamil Nadu. Hw had worked in Indian Army for 18 years.
While official Twitter handle of Indian Army has accused him of spreading misinformation, many users have defended him. One user tweeted
Dear @adgpi - what ever said by the person in the video is absolutely fact n logical n he raised a request to handover d rescue operations control to army ! He is not supposed to post a video in army uniform if he is not an army guy n it’s a crime ; I stand for IndianArmy
While another user tweeted
He didn't insult anyone... instead he begged to call army and save the people including his family... please don't allow to target a person if he is an army man...If he pretended then definitely he should be punished...we stand with Indian Army
Many of his pictures are available in uniform on social media.
Conclusion: He is not an imposter. He is an ex-army man who just wanted Kerala Government to give complete freedom to Army in relief and rescue operation.
Note: There is an audio going viral on Whatsapp claiming that most of the people affected by the flood are rich. This case is not related to that audio.
