Were hackers able to find RS Sharma's bank account details through Aadhaar number

  • Share

Summary

The only thing you can find from Aadhar is the name of the bank. And one can't do anything by merely knowing the name of the bank.

A Twitter user claimed that he has got bank account details of Mr RS Sharma through Aadhaar. He Teeted "@rssharma3 can u confirm in yes or no ? Now you will take legal action I know Mobile number linked to this #Aadhaar number is 9958587977 Bank account IFSC CodePUNB0657100  MICR Code110024275 Bank PUNJAB NATIONAL BANK A/C 06571005285804 After log of research I got same details"

However, when he was questioned over the authenticity of the data he claimed "We are working on that Still I don't know account number is correct or not. So firstly need to confirmation whether it's correct or not. Then we will publish our log publicly"

Finally RS Sharma himself rebutted the claim by replying "Dear @pushpendrakum ; Sorry your research was in vain. I have no account with PNB."

Another Twitter user pointed out that only thing you can find from Aadhar is the name of the bank. If you send money to someone through UPI the app will return the name of the bank associated with Aadhaar which is not a vulnerability but a feature. And one can't do anything by merely knowing the name of the bank.

We must point it out to our users that there are several ways of getting someone's bank account details. If you are giving a check to somebody, you are revealing your bank account details.

Conclusion : No, hackers couldn't find bank account details of Mr. RS Sharma through Aadhaar

Note : Even though RS Sharma has clarified that he doesn't have any PNB bank account, The Wire has published an article  based on a random unverified email claiming that his Punjab National bank account “is under imminent threat of being hacked”.
