At least 38 CRPF personnel were killed on 14th Feb in one of the deadliest terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir when a suicide bomber rammed a vehicle carrying over 100 kg of explosives into their bus in Pulwama district. Pakistan backed terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed has claimed the responsibility for the attack.
However, some people on social media have floated a conspiracy theory that the suicide bomber was a close aide of Congress President Rahul Gandhi. A user Ashish Singh Raja tweeted "The one who attacked the Indian army was a close aide of Rahul Gandhi. Is Congress behind this attack?" (translated)
Another user Budhraj Gehlot tweeted with the same caption.
Similar claims are being made on Facebook as well.
We found that the image of the terrorist Adil Ahmad Dar is correct as his image was shared by several media houses including NDTV.
However, his image with Rahul Gandhi is photoshopped. The Original photo is from Barabanki, taken 5 years ago i.e. 28th Feb 2014 before Loksabha elections which was shared on Getty Images with a caption "Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi after paying obeisance at the dargah of renowned Sufi saint Haji Waris Ali Shah on February 28, 2014, in Barabanki, India. Rahul Gandhi formally kicked off his partys campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections with a road show."
The image which shows Pulwama suicide bomber and Rahul Gandhi is photoshopped.
