Rumour

An image is going viral on social media in which prime minister Narendra Modi can be seen bowing down to a lady. A Facebook page Yuva Desh has shared the image with a caption "The country has got the first prime minister in 70 years who can bow down to rich up to 90-degree angle".

When we searched for it, we found that this image has been shared in the past as well with a very similar narrative. (Link to Facebook Post)

The same image was also shared in 2014 with a similar claim. (Link to tweet)

Our Investigation

We did a reverse image search to find that the lady in the image is not Mrs Gautam Adani. The name of Gautam Adani's wife is Priti Adani who is also the chairperson of Adani Foundation. Here is a picture of Mrs Priti Adani and Gautam Adani.

When we did a reverse image search of the picture, we found that the picture shows PM Narendra Modi greeting Ms. Geetha Rudresh, ex-Mayor of Tumkur City Corporation, Karnataka. The image was shared on Reddit in 2014. a TOI journalist had also shared the same image on 25th September 2014.

We also found a report by Navbharat Times debunking the viral image.

Fact

In the viral pic, PM Modi is bowing down to Ms. Geetha Rudresh, the then Mayor of Tumkur City Corporation, Karnataka in 2014.
