Nazir Ahmed who is a member of the UK parliament (House of Lords) and is known for advocating political activities related to the Muslim community both in the UK and in other countries tweeted out a very graphic video that shows the corpse of a baby and a woman being dug out from the ground by a person while several other people watch.
His tweet reads, “ Warning: horrific video of a mother and child being buried alive in India by Fascist. Thank God they are recovered” and he had tagged international news agencies such as Guardian, New York Times, etc.
This tweet by Nazir Ahmed was retweeted by several thousand people in a few hours. However, it was deleted by him after a while after people pointed out that his claims are false. One can figure out that the video is fake by simply doing a reverse image search using screenshots from the video. The search will lead to a Bengali news article reporting the actual happenings of the horrific event. The article is published by Ei Samay Sangbadpatra which is owned by Times Group. The article reports that the video of the dead bodies of a child and woman being dug out is from Haluguch village in North Dinajpur, West Bengal. The accused in the murder is Akbar Ali who allegedly murdered his wife and his newborn daughter following personal problems. Although the investigation is underway, it is suspected that they were killed due to breathlessness. Following this, the villagers reportedly vandalized Akbar’s house and set it on fire but he managed to flee the village. The article also contains a statement from the Islampur Superintendent of Police Sachin Makkar who said, "According to the law, two bodies have been recovered after digging the ground in the presence of a magistrate. An investigation has been launched to find out why and how the woman and her infant were murdered”.
We also found a video report by News18 Bangla.
The context given by social media users claiming that Muslims are being buried alive in India is absolutely fake. The murder is suspected to have been carried out by a man due to personal issues. Moreover, the accused in this case is a Muslim himself.
