Our Investigation

We did a reverse image search and found that the same picture was viral last year as well. We found a screenshot of a Facebook post which was shared 9 months back on sharechat.

The caption on the screenshot reads "RSS-BJP leader Deshraj Pandey who was killing the cow and throwing beef in temples for the last four years has been arrested along with his team. He was caught red-handed by people and when he was beaten, he told that 570 gangs are running across the country at the direction of Mohan Bhagwat and Narendra Modi. They are paid Rs 35000 per month for this. Modiji has ordered this to create riots so that votes can be polarised in 2019 election and he can grab the power again".

We also found that the same picture was shared by the official Facebook page of an NGO Astitva Foundation on 19th September 2017. As per the post, the man is a rapist of an eight-year-old girl who was caught by the public.

However, we couldn't verify the authenticity of the claim that he is a rapist.

On further probing, we found that the same picture has been used as a thumbnail on a Youtube video about the arrest of a Lashkar Terrorist Sandeep Sharma Alias Adil. Sandeep(Adil) had converted to Islam before joining Lashkar.

But Adil was not caught by a mob, he was arrested by Police. So, this picture can't be his.

We couldn't trace the original source of this image or story behind it.

Was a BJP worker arrested for carrying beef inside a temple?

There is no media report to suggest so. Keeping in mind the gravity of the claim, it is highly unlikely that this kind of incident will go unreported in mainstream media.

In July 2017, the head of BJP’s minority cell in Katol division in Maharashtra was attacked by a group allegedly for carrying beef. However, he wasn't carrying beef to the temple.

We found another report by India.com with a headline "Burkha-clad RSS activist caught throwing beef at temple? Pictures go viral on Facebook!"

Scoopwhoop had also published the same report in 2015.

Both the articles claimed that these photos were viral on social media with a claim that the burqa-clad man was an 'RSS activist' who was 'caught throwing beef at a temple in Azamgarh'.

However, articles mentioned that the tweet, which is believed to be the origin of the claim was deleted and that authors could not authenticate the claim.

There is not a single news report which can substantiate the claim that the man in burqa is RSS activist or not or whether he threw beef in the temple or not. Still, a Twitter user @kapsology tweeted in 2018 shared the unverified report by India.com to claim that a burqa-clad alleged RSS activist was caught throwing beef inside the temple.

Fact

The claim that a BJP worker was caught by a mob while carrying beef inside a temple in Hyderabad is false. The picture shared by the unofficial page of Asaduddin Owaisi is an old one.

There is not a single credible media report to substantiate the claim that any BJP worker has ever been caught while carrying beef inside a temple.
