A picture of an injured woman is going viral on social media with a claim that she is a Mumbai based journalist Nitika Rao who was attacked for asking questions against Modi again and again.
A journalist and media researcher based in Kasmir Aarif Shah tweeted, "Nikita Sidharda, a Mumbai based Journalist was attacked for asking questions against Modi again & again. BJP supporters attacked the female journalist and she was beaten ruthlessly. This is the second attack on a journalist from last 4 days".
The tweet has more than 2000 likes and 2100 retweets.
The same picture was tweeted by another user Aafrin with the same claim and it has got more than 200 retweets. As per her tweet, the journalist's name is Nitika Rao.
Another Twitter user Saif Ul Islam tweeted the picture to claim that a Mumbai based journalist Nikita Rao was attacked by Hindutva forces.
A Facebook page "Dignity of Women" also shared the same image to claim that a senior journalist based out in Mumbai was attacked for questioning the government.
One comment on the post reads, "Is it the way the ruling party has to celebrate the victory? Very poor. I am saddened".
When we searched for it, we found that Boom Live has already debunked the claim. BOOM got in touch with Sayyed Khaled Kais, general secretary of the Akhil Bharatiya Patrakar Suraksha Samiti (All India Journalists Protection Council) who confirmed that Rao who heads their Maharashtra wing was attacked a few days ago.
BOOM also talked to Nitika Rao who is admitted in a hospital in Kalyan, Thane district. She said, “I was assaulted by the goons of a builder few days ago. The viral photos on Facebook are mine but I was not attacked for questioning the government about missing airplanes.”
She was fighting for the rights of a group of a farmer in Kalyan who had been promised compensation by the owner of a building construction company. But after acquiring land, the owner refused to pay and was trying to scam the farmers. So she was defending the farmers’ rights and had also confronted the builder. A Few days ago, he sent his goons who attacked and beat her”.
Rao suffered severe injuries on her face and hands.
The claim that a Mumbai based senior journalist Nitika Rao was attacked for questioning the government is false. She was attacked by the goons of a builder against whom she was fighting for farmer's right in Kalyan.
