Priyanka Gandhi didn't stop kids from raising abusive slogans against PM Modi: No, the video is clipped

  • Share

A video of Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra standing and smiling with a group of children who were shouting abusive slogans against prime minister Modi is going viral on social media.

You can watch the video here:

After the "Chowkidar Chor Hai" slogan the kids then used an abusive word for PM Modi. The video then ends with Priyanka Gandhi keeping her hands on the mouth in shock.

Many people on social media are accusing Priyanka Gandhi of not stopping the kids from raising the abusive slogan against PM Modi. Union Minister Smriti Irani and Abhijit Majumder who is an editor of MyNation were some prominent names who shared the video to raise their objection.

Smriti Irani's tweet reads: "Uncouth to the core. Imagine the filthiest of abuses that a Prime Minister has to endure from people whose only claim to fame is a nose. Lutyens outrage anyone ????"

Recently inducted BJP member Major Surendra Poonia accused Priyanka Gandhi of encouraging kids to raise abusive slogans against Prime Minister Modi.

Our Investigation

We found that the video is clipped. Many Twitter user shared the extended version of the video which was taken when Priyanka Gandhi was in Amethi on 30th April. You can watch the extended version of the video here:

The video starts with the children chanting “chowkidar chor hai” and Priyanka Gandhi enjoying and smiling and then some man shouted: Neem ka Patta kadva hai" and children responded by saying "Modi s***a b****a hai”. Priyanka Gandhi put her hand on mouth and said "Not this one...Not this one..this one is not a good kid". Children then shouted Rahul Gandhi Zindabad.

The clipped video does not show Priyanka Gandhi stopping the children. So, the claim that Priyanka Gandhi didn't stop children is false. But the bigger question here is who taught these children these slogans and Priyanka Gandhi certainly didn't stop them from shouting "Chowkidar Chor Hai". Is calling someone a thief, not an abuse? If not then Priyanka Gandhi and Congress didn't do anything wrong by involving kids. But if it is considered an abuse then criticism by Smriti Irani and others is valid.

Moreover, even if she stopped the kids, it is highly likely that these kids were asked to shout these slogans by local Congress members which is itself shameful.

The viral video is clipped which does not show Priyanka Gandhi stopping the children. In the extended video, she stopped kids from using abusive words for PM Modi. However, she did approve the "Chowkidar Chor Hai" slogan by the kids.
