Our Investigation

We found that the copy of the fax message was not fake as DG-IGP of Karnataka had indeed written the message after he got a phone call from an unknown person claiming to have information about terror attacks in different cities across the southern part of India.

The copy of the message was tweeted by ANI:

Karnataka DG-IGP writes to DGs of Tami Nadu, Kerala, Andhra, Telangana, Puducherry, Goa, Maharashtra following a phone call by a man 'claiming to have info that cities in Tamil Nadu, K'taka, Kerala, Andhra, Telangana, Puducherry, Goa, Maharashtra will be hit by terror attacks'.

However, a few hours later ANI tweeted to clarify that it was just a hoax call by a retired army personnel who has been arrested now.

Bengaluru Rural SP: It was a hoax call, the 65-year-old lorry driver, Sundara Murthy, a retired Army personnel has been arrested for making the call. #Karnataka
