  • Share

Summary

The viral screenshot of a tweet, allegedly by AAP MLA Amanatullah is fake. One of his tweets has been edited by adding a few more lines to mislead people.

Amid the Delhi Assembly elections and its results, a screenshot of a tweet allegedly by Aam Aadmi Party MLA, Amanatullah Khan saying, "Shaheen Bagh has won and so will Islam win across India", was widely shared on social media.

A Facebook user named Avi Dandiya shared the screenshot calling AAP MLA a senseless man who is just putting oil in the fire when the country is going through such a socially sensitive time.

A twitter user also shared this screenshot.

The viral screenshot of AAP MLA shows him saying, "On completion of 13 rounds, I’m leading by 72000 votes,Today Shaheen, Bagh has won, our Islam has won, Insa Allah, soon Islam will win across entire India, Thanks to all of my Muslim brothers and sisters who, altogether has shown their power. Keep united, we will surely repeat the history” (Translated from Hindi)

The truth behind the claim

In our investigation, we found this viral screenshot to be fake. On 11th February 2020, Amanatullah tweeted while the vote counting was going on. He wrote that he is leading 13th round by 72000 votes.

This tweet of Amanatullah Khan has been edited with other lines added.

A closer look at the viral screenshot reveals that four bottom lines were added digitally on the original screenshot as fonts of both texts are different, which is not possible in a single tweet. Also, the four bottom lines are not in alignment with the original one, which also is not possible in a tweet.

In conclusion, the viral screenshot of a tweet, allegedly by AAP MLA Amanatullah is fake. One of his tweets has been edited by adding a few more lines to mislead people.
