A few days ago a flyer for an Anti-CAA protest in Mumbai was being circulated on social media. It was virally spread on the web and sparked controversy because the flyer consisted of the lines “Dress code for women: Hijab or Burqa”.

The edited version of the poster is being shared on social media by people who criticise it and most of them claiming that the Anti-CAA protests are being led by Muslims in India. 

The above poster was tweeted by a Twitter handle @savitha_rao who has more than 9000 followers.

Another Twitter handle @oyevivekk shared the same poster and wrote, "Event: Massive women's protest against CAA. Dress Code: Hijab or Burkha Motive: So the dalal journalists and anti hindu left leaning sites can milk pictures of women carrying kids in Burkha/Hijab and used it against the PM Modi how is "oppressing" the muslim minorities."

A Facebook page India Against Presstitutes also shared the poster pointing out why there is no outrage or media debate on this.

However, the poster shared by some of the social media users shown above is an edited version of the original poster. After searching through social media, we found some tweets and posts with the original poster which does not mention the dress code at all.

The poster was also tweeted by a Twitter handle NRC Protest Info.

Moreover, if one analysis closely, they might recognise the difference in the font style and colour of the sentence mentioning the dress code.

In conclusion, a poster of an Anti-CAA protest which took place in Mumbai was manipulated by editing and given a communal angle. There was no dress code for the protest.
