  • Share

Summary

In our investigation, we found out that the claim that RSS members in Hyderabad are roaming with sticks in their hands amid anti-CAA protest and impersonating to be Policemen is false. The men in the viral video and image are from Hyderabad police.

In the backdrop of Anti-CAA protests in different parts of the country, Hyderabad has also seen a rise in flash protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) across the city over the past week after the police denied permission to conduct any public meetings or protests against the law.

In the meanwhile, a video and a picture started doing rounds on social media with a claim that 'RSS members are roaming in Hyderabad with sticks in Hyderabad and are claiming to be from Police force'. A twitter page named 'Minority of India' posted a video along with a picture, with a caption, "Do they have any affiliate with #RSS? No uniform... No badges.. Claiming to be police.."

Another Twitter page also posted the same video with a similar claim.

At the time of writing this article, this video received more than 700 retweets.

You can watch the video down below.

In the video, one can hear men with sticks are telling people to go away. A person asks who are they, to which they reply and tell that they are Policemen and they don't wear a uniform.

In the comment section, a user informs that the area seen in the video is 'Toli Chowk.'

The truth behind the video

The men seen in the video and the viral image with sticks in their hands are indeed Police.

Following the rumors, the Hyderabad Police itself clarified and tweeted that the men seen in the picture are from Hyderabad Police.

On the 12th of January, around 200 people gathered at the Toli Chowki area in Hyderabad and continued their protest past midnight and the uninformed police were unable to track the protesters. However, some of the protesters were detained. Following the reports of flash protests against CAA and NRC, Police in Hyderabad were put on alert across the city.

In conclusion, the claim that RSS members in Hyderabad are roaming with sticks in their hands amid anti-CAA protest and impersonating to be Policemen is false. The men in the viral video and image are from Hyderabad police.
