12 years old picture from Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal shared with a fake claim that soldier of the Indian security force misbehaves with a woman in Assam.
Former National Executive Member of Samajwadi Party Preeti Chobey tweeted a photo in which a member of a security force is seen mistreating a young woman. The picture is shared with a caption, "Salute to the soldiers of the BJP government for this rip off! The shameless government in honor of women in Assam".
The picture received 349 Likes and 149 Retweets at the time of writing this article.
With the help of reverse research of the image, we found that the claim is false. The viral picture is about 12 years old and belongs the capital city of Nepal, Kathmandu. The security force personnel seen in the picture belong to Nepal Police.
We found this picture on Adobe Stock's website. According to the website, this photo was taken on March 24, 2008, by Deepa Shrestha, when Tibetan protesters were demonstrating against China in front of the United Nations building in Kathmandu. In this protest, Nepali police broke up an anti-China rally by Tibetan exiles in Kathmandu, detaining 250 protesters. Police holding plastic shields, dragged the protesters into iron-meshed vans and trucks and drove them to detention centers. This picture was also taken at the same time.
We also found the uniform of Nepal Police on Google which was very similar to the uniform seen in the viral image. So, it is clear that the security forces seen in the viral video are not from India.
In conclusion, the viral claim that the soldier of the Indian security force misbehaved with a woman in Assam is false. The viral picture is 12 years old from Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal and the security forces personnel seen in the picture are from Nepal Police.
