A video is being shared on social media with a claim that after the National Register of Citizens (NRC) was implemented in Assam, people are being picked up from their homes. In the video, one can see police taking some people in Custody.

A Facebook user name Parvez Khan shared the video with a claim that 'NRC implemented in Assam, people are being picked up from homes, the Media will not show you because they are sold out. Now we have the responsibility to share this video as much as possible.'

Video from Hyderabad

In the investigation, we found that the viral video is not from Assam but from Hyderabad in Telangana. The protesters were detained by the police in Hyderabad during a protest organized against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) on 19 December 2019. This video is from that time only.

In the viral video, a watermark with the name 'AZAD REPORTER'  and an advertisement of Orthopedic doctor Mir Javed Khan's 'Germanten Hospital in Hyderabad' is seen on the video. Taking a hint from these two, we searched on Google with keywords like 'Azad reporter' and found a link to it's the Instagram account in which he posted the same video on 19 December 2019 with a caption 'Hyderabad Exhibition ground, who are participating in the demonstration being arrested'

After that we searched Google on whether there was a protest in Hyderabad on 19 December. In the results, we received a news report, according to which a total of 462 people were detained during the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Hyderabad on 19 December. However, those detained were released by early evening and no case was filed against anyone.

In conclusion, the claim with the viral video showing people being picked up from their homes after NRC was implemented in Assam is false. The video is actually from Hyderabad where the people protesting against the CAA were detained by the police.
