Old pictures from 2015 presented as police encounter of four accused in Hyderabad rape and murder case

An old photo from 2015 is being shared as the police encounter of the four accused in gangrape and murder of a 26-year old veterinary doctor in Hyderabad. 

On 6th December, following the encounter of the four accused of gangrape and murder of a 26-year old veterinary doctor in Hyderabad, a picture was widely shared on mainstream media and social media as a photo of the police encounter. A twitter user named Indhuja shared the picture with a caption, "JUSTICE FINALLY SERVED ITS DUTY !!! Love you “the brave Hyderabad government” Now rest in peace"

Another Twitter page Indian Glitz also shared the same picture. 

The same picture was used by ZEE News and TV9 Bharatvarsh is their reports. 

The photo shows some policemen in an open field where 3 dead bodies are lying. 

The truth behind the photo

By google reverse image search, we found out that the widely shared encounter photo is an old picture from Andhra Pradesh when 20 woodcutters from Tamil Nadu, who were trying to smuggle red sander wood from the state, were killed in an encounter in the Seshachalam forest in 2015. 

The Hindu published a report  on the same incident with the title "20 woodcutters from TN gunned by A.P. police."

According to the reports, 20 smugglers were killed when they rained stones and threw sickles at red sanders anti-smuggling task force. 

In conclusion, an old photo from 2015 is being shared as the police encounter photo of the four accused of gangrape and murder of a 26-year old veterinary doctor in Hyderabad.
