FACT CHECK: Did BJP receive funds from a company which is linked to terror funding?

  • Share

Summary

In our investigation, we found out that the claim BJP received donations from a company that is being probed by ED in relation to terror funding is true.

Recently, a report was published by 'The wire' with a claim that the ruling BJP took a large donation from a company that is presently being probed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for facilitating “terror funding,” adding that it was revealed by financial declarations by the BJP itself.

After the wire's report, the same was reported by the Times of India, Business Today and many others.

We received a request from one of our readers to substantiate this claim.

The truth behind the claim

In its report, the wire has claimed that BJP received a donation worth 10 crores in 2014-2015 by RKW Developers Ltd. The information on funds received by BJP can be accessed here

On the 26th number in the list, it can be seen that RKW Developers Pvt. Ltd. donated 10 Crore in 2104-2015.

Ranjeet Bindra is a former director in the RKW Developers Pvt. Ltd., who has been arrested by the ED for allegedly facilitating deals on behalf of the underworld. Ranjeet Bindra was dealing with the right-hand man of Iqbal Mirchi, an accused in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts and a close aide of mafia boss Dawood Ibrahim. For more information, you can read this report by the Republic world.

The opposition has also attacked BJP on receiving funds by the 'terror funding' company. However, there is no reaction from the ruling party until now.

Therefore, we can conclude that the claim BJP received donations from a company that is being probed by ED in relation to terror funding is true.
