Ministry of External Affairs issues warning about fraudulent websites duping people for passport services

The Ministry of External Affairs’ official website ‘Passport Seva’ has issued a warning about fake portals that are disguising as official websites for Passport related services. The notice informing the public also includes a warning about mobile applications duping people by collecting data.

Such fraudulent websites also levy hefty charges for filling up online forms and scheduling appointments for services related to passport. The warning also cites that such websites are registered in the domain name *.org, *.in, *.com, whereas the official website is registered with domain name *gov.in.

 List of some the fake websites: www.indiapassport.org, www.online-passportindia.com, www.passportindiaportal.in, www.passport-india.in, www.passport-seva.in, www.applypassport.org.

The warning has been issued to alert everyone to be careful while looking out for passport services online and to not visit any of the above-mentioned websites.

According to reports, MEA issued the warning following a number of complaints about portals resembling the official portal through which people have been duped.

The warning could be seen as a pop-up as soon as one opens the official website. One can apply for passport related services at www.passportindia.gov.in, or can also use the mPassport Seva mobile application.
