  • Share

Summary

The claim of AAP party that if NRC is implemented in Delhi then people from other states will have to leave the capital is false. According to NRC, only illegal migrants in the country will have to leave. Any citizen of India has the freedom to reside and settle in any part of the country.

Ever since the NRC's (National Register of Citizens) second and final draft was published leaving out 40 lakh people in Assam from its list, the issue has bewn widely politicized.

Recently, Delhi Cheif Minister Arvind Kejriwal Said that if NRC is implemented, the Bihari born MP Manoj Tiwari will be the first one who will have to leave Delhi.

AAP MP Sanjay Singh also said "The BJP is spreading anarchy in the name of NRC. It has a number of anomalies. The country cannot move forward with it. If it was implemented in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath would have to go to Uttarakhand".

AAP MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj tweeted "People from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Orissa, and Bihar come to Delhi for employment, are equal partners in Delhi's development. they are not a thief. If the NRC is implemented in Delhi, then all of them will have to leave Delhi. Why are you against them"?

What is NRC?

The National Register of Citizens (NRC) is a register containing names of all genuine Indian citizens. At present, only Assam has such a register. The purpose of NRC is to identify Indian citizens from among all the present residents of the state thereby leading to the identification of illegal migrants residing in that state

AAP party spreading rumors among people of Delhi about NRC claiming that if NRC is implemented in Delhi then people from different states will have to leave the national Capital.

If the NRC will be introduced all over the country then only all illegal immigrants will be thrown out of the country through legal means. And all the citizens of India have a right to move freely throughout the territory of India.

According to the  Article 19(1)(e) – Freedom to reside and settle in any part of the territory of India – As citizens of India, we can reside in any part of the country, which is subject to certain restrictions imposed by the State. An Indian Citizen can reside in any state.

Reasonable Restrictions on Freedom to reside and settle in any part of the territory of India

However, there are some reasonable restrictions on freedom to reside and settle in any part of the territory of India. Such settlement should be in the interests of the general public and the protection of the interests of any Scheduled Tribe.

Conclusion: The claim of AAP party that if NRC is implemented in Delhi then people from other states will have to leave the capital is false. According to NRC, only illegal migrants in the country will have to leave. Any citizen of India has the freedom to reside and settle in any part of the country.
