BJP MLA Raja Singh suffered head injury after scuffle with Hyderabad Police: Video shows he hit himself with stone

  • Share

Summary

The police have accepted that a scuffle broke out, however, they denied doing lathi-charge. The video of the incident shows Raja Singh hitting himself with a stone.

BJP MLA from Hyderabad’s Goshamahal, T Raja Singh on Thursday accused the police of assaulting him when he tried to erect a statue of freedom fighter Rani Avanti Bai Lodh in Jummerat Bazar.

He tweeted a few pictures in which he can be seen receiving treatment.

Speaking to The News Minute, Shahinayathgunj SHO Chand Basha said, “The incident happened around 1 am when Raja Singh and his followers visited the spot. There is a 6-7 feet tall statue of Rani Avanti for many years now at the Y-junction there, but the MLA wanted to replace it with a statue that was almost 25 feet tall. When we pointed out that he did not have permission for the same, he did not listen to us and insisted that he would put it up. Additionally, the statue was also made of plaster of Paris and fiber, so besides causing congestion, it could potentially fall down due to strong winds and even result in injuries to bystanders”.

Police denied lathi-charge

The police have denied the charge and released video footage which purportedly shows Raja Singh hitting his head with what looked like a stone. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Zone) A R Srinivas tweeted the video with a message "MLA Raja Singh hit himself with a stone on his head and caused a self-inflicted injury on his head and is falsely alleging that police has caused this injury".

Commissioner of Police Anjani Kumar also tweeted that there was no lathi-charge and police have ample evidence to show that this is a self-inflicted injury. You can watch the video here:

The video shows Raja Singh pick up a big stone and hit himself on the head, even as the police attempt to stop him.

However, Raja Singh claimed that the police used force against him and did lathi-charge on him and his supporters. Urging the police to release all the videos of lathi-charge on them, Singh in a tweet said,  the police department always targets him.

I urge @hydcitypolice @CPHydCity have some spine & release all the videos while police laithcharge on my karyakartas & me. Don't be selective in releasing videos as your department always targeted me. Why Hindu's are always targeted @TelanganaDGP @HMOIndia

In the video message tweeted by him, he claimed that he took the stone after the lathi-charge. You can watch the video message here:

Conclusion: The police have accepted that a scuffle broke out, however, they denied doing lathi-charge. The video of the incident that was released by the police also corroborates their version of events.

However, we couldn't independently verify whether there was any lathi-charge or not.
