The claim that NASA has 58% of Indian employees is false but the viral message originated in Pakistan and some Indians fell for it.
A message is going viral on social claiming that NASA has 58% Indian employees. The viral message on Twitter reads:
Google's CEO is Indian
Nokia's CEO is Indian
Adobe's CEO is Indian
Amazon's BOD is Indian
MasterCard's CEO is Indian
Microsoft's CEO is Indian
Pepsico's CEO was Indian Indra Nooyi
Nasa has 58% Indian employees
Alt news recently did a fact check on this to prove the claim wrong and social media users are sharing their article to claim that Indians with inferiority complex are sharing such fake news.
Sam Jawed who was earlier associated with Alt News tweeted the link with a message "What kind of inferiority complex makes people regularly post and retweet misinformation of this kind? No, 58% of NASA employees are not Indian".
We searched the keyword "NASA has 58% Indian employees" on Facebook and Twitter and found that there are hardly 20-30 such messages. When we scanned through all the messages, we found that it originated in Pakistan.
The earliest instance of the message we found was shared on 29th May from a Pakistani user Usman Ayub who writes:
Google's CEO is Indian
Nokia's CEO is Indian
Adobe's CEO is Indian
Amazon's BOD is Indian
MasterCard's CEO is Indian
Microsoft's CEO is Indian
pepsiCo's CEO was Indian indra nooyi
Nasa had 58% percent of their employees are indiansPakistan had the income through IT is approximately $1 billion/year where india had approximately $142 billion / year.
The country which is more advance in the Technology will win the war just like in a example of history when English people conquer the subcontinent.. Just because the English people was more advance in the Technology
In next few years, India will be World's IT hub. They are creating inventors, while we are teaching our children that x people are kaafirs and x thing is haram, and that we will beat India with missiles, despite losing 2 wars.
We are teaching our children obsolete and out-dated courses and curriculum.
The books of the course we are covering in our colleges & universities that are written so before our birth.
Think where the hell we are?I want to see Pakistan where our news channels will telecast programs on IT revolutions and educational competitions rather than Jeeto Pakistan jahan motor bike Hui ifra Ki and ab Auntiyaaaa kahan hain etc
Copied
As mentioned in the message, he has copied it from somewhere. Due to privacy settings, Facebook is not showing all the messages but if we look at a few initial instances of the message, it is clear that this viral message originated from Pakistan.
Karachi based Dr-Adeel Ansari and Syed Zair Ali, Barkat Ali Mahar shared this message on 30th May. Sindh based Shaharyar Khan shared it on 31st May. Another Pakistani user Zain Ul Arfeen shared it on 1st June, Saqib Sohail Butt shared this message in a Pakistan based group Bankers Forum on 2nd June. On 3rd June, Karachi based Prashant Kumar shared the same message.
If we see on Twitter, the initial tweets are from Pakistani handles. Here is the screenshot of the first two tweets. Prashant Kumar is from Pakistan while S Ali Abdul Rehman is from Dubai.
All the available evidence clearly suggests that the viral message originated in Pakistan. It was much later that this message was shared by a few Indians as they fell for it without verifying the authenticity.
Another similar message was shared by Waqas Ahmad on 28th May from Pakistan. It is notable that his message doesn't claim that NASA has 58% of Indian employees.
NASA employs nearly 17,000 people with diverse backgrounds. Seventy-two percent of NASA employees are White or Caucasian, 12 percent are Black or African American, 7 percent are Asian American or Pacific Islander, 8 percent or Hispanic or Latino; 1 percent are American Indian or Alaska Native, and less than 1 percent are more than one race.

Conclusion: The claim that NASA has 58% of Indian employees is false but the viral message originated in Pakistan and some Indians fell for it.
We can't say with surety whether Alt News failed to notice it or they intentionally chose to ignore the fact that the message originated from Pakistan.
It is also worth mentioning that the names mentioned as CEOs are of Indian origin. They are no longer Indian citizens.
Even though they are not Indian Citizens any more, the idea behind the message is to show the strength of the Indian Education System.
1. Google's CEO is an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur.
2. Nokia's CEO Rajeev Suri has done Bachelor of Engineering (Electronics and Communications) from Manipal Institute of Technology, Karnataka, India.
3. Adobe's CEO Shantanu Narayen has a bachelor's degree in electronics and communication engineering from University College of Engineering, Osmania University, Hyderabad
4. Mastercard's CEO Ajaypal Singh Banga has Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Economics from St. Stephen's College, Delhi University and MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad
5. Microsoft's CEO Satya Nadella has a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the Manipal Institute of Technology, Karnataka.
6. Pepsico's former CEO Indira Nooyi has a bachelor's degrees in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics from Madras Christian College of the University of Madras and a Post Graduate Programme Diploma from Indian Institute of Management Calcutta.
All of them had their primary education in India which clearly shows the value of the Indian education system.
India is well on its course to become the world's IT Hub in the coming decades. Forget about Indian IT giants like TCS, Infosys, Wipro even American companies like IBM has more workforce in India than in the United States. As per the New York Times' report dated Sept 2017, IBM employs 130,000 people in India — about one-third of its total workforce which is more than in any other country.
