Fact Check of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's maiden speech after joining active politics

  • Share

Summary

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's claim that PM Modi had promised to deposit Rs 15 lakh in the bank account and create 2 crore jobs every year is false.

Congress Secretary General in-charge of western Uttar Pradesh Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took a potshot at PM Modi in her first election speech since joining active politics earlier this year.

Speaking at a rally in Gandhinagar, Gujarat Priyanka Vadra accused BJP of big talks and no action on the ground. Se said "Those who had promised to give 2 crore jobs, ask them where are the jobs? Where are the 15 lakhs they promised in your bank accounts?".

You can watch his speech here. Relevant section starts at 4:05 minutes.

Even though she didn't take PM Modi's name or mentioned BJP, her words were directed towards PM Modi as the opposition party has relentlessly used these two cases against PM Modi.

PM Modi never promised to deposit Rs 15 lakh in citizen's bank account

PM Modi never promised to deposit Rs 15 lakh in citizens' account. In his speech, the said amount is a reference to the quantum of black money stashed overseas and not a promise to credit every account with 15 lakh rupees.

At a public rally on November 7, 2013, in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker, PM Modi had said:

If even once, the money hoarded by these crooks in banks abroad, even if we bring only that back, every poor Indian would get
free of cost Rs 15 to Rs 20 lakhs, just like that. There’s so much money.

You can watch his speech here. The relevant section starts at 17:50 minutes.

Also, there is no mention of the ‘Rs 15 lakh-in-each-account’ promise in the 2014 election manifesto of BJP.

PM Modi never promised to create 2 crore jobs per year

The second claim is that PM Modi had promised 2 crore jobs per year. But this claim is false PM Modi had never promised to give 2 crore jobs to youth every year. The Viral Sach team of ABP News had found this claim to be wrong. You can watch their report here:

Notably, on 21 November 2013, PM Modi had said in his speech in a rally in Agra that during Loksabha election, Congress had promised to give 1 crore jobs every year. This statement was twisted by the opposition and some section of media to show as if PM Modi has promised to give 1/2 crore jobs every year to the youth of this country.

There is a report dated Nov 22, 2013, by the Economic Times which says BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi promised to provide one crore jobs to the youth of the country if voted to power at the Centre. But this report is clearly not correct since PM Modi was only talking about Congress' promise of providing one crore jobs. He never made any promise about giving 1 crore or 2 crores jobs.

Conclusion: PM Modi never promised to deposit 15 lakh in Bank account or about 2 crore jobs every year. These reports were propaganda created by the opposition party and a section of media.

Earlier, the official Facebook page of Congress has also highlighted these two cases to highlight PM Modi's marketing gimmicks which were debunked by us.
