A video of a man beating up a woman went viral on Twitter on May 11. A Tweet by @Numbkhopdi from May 11 featured this video, claiming that the video was from the USA. The Tweet further said that the woman was getting 'beaten by brother for wanting to date non-Muslim guy.'
The video is being widely retweeted and has over 8 lakh views.
By doing a reverse image search of the keyframes of the video, it was found that the incident and the video have been featured by multiple Russian social media handles and websites in 2021.
Russian handle @mozgolom72 posted the video on July 5, 2021.
The Tweet says that the woman, a Crimean gipsy, was beaten up by her brother for running away with a Ukrainian person.
In another post from ten months ago on the Russian website fastler.ru, the incident was featured. It stated that the woman fell in love with a Ukrainian person she met online and wanted to run away with them.
Russian website pikabu.ru had a similar post from 10 months ago.
A post by the page Reborn on the Russian social media website vk.com from July 6, 2021, had the same video. This post also talked about the woman being gipsy and her Ukrainian lover.
In conclusion, an old video from Russia is being given a false communal angle involving Muslims and is said to have originated from the USA. The 2021 video is from Russia, and various posts claim that the video features a Crimean gipsy woman being beaten up by her relative for attempting to run away with her Ukrainian lover. While this claim cannot be confirmed, the communal angle involving Muslims is false.
