A viral video of Muslims offering Namaz in front of a mosque is being claimed to be from Paris, France. In an investigation, it was found that the incident occurred in Moscow, Russia.
On May 7, @mimi_razdan10 tweeted a viral video of people offering Namaz in public. The Tweet claimed that this was an incident in Paris. The camera panned to show the surroundings, and a mosque is visible at around 20 seconds.
The same video was tweeted by @Akramha60795433, on a more celebratory note as opposed to @mimi_razdan10's offensive stance.
By doing an image reverse search of the keyframes of the video and doing relevant keyword searches, it was found that the incident occurred in Moscow, Russia.
The mosque visible at around 20 seconds resembles the cathedral mosque in Moscow.
Furthermore, the building adjacent to the mosque in the viral video can be seen in a photograph of the mosque by the Russian News Agency TASS, thus confirming that the mosque in the video is indeed from Moscow, not Paris.
The image is from an Eid al-Adha celebration in Russia. Eid al-Adha, locally known as Kurban Bayram in Russia, is an annual event. Multiple similar images of gathering in front of the mosque can be found each year. Therefore, it is difficult to pinpoint the exact date of the event shown in the video.
In conclusion, the video of people offering Namaz in front of a mosque is not from Paris, but from Moscow. This happens annually during Eid al-Adha, locally known as Kurban Bayram in Russia.
