Fact Check: Truth behind the viral video of PM Modi’s Saying he used to steal in his childhood

  • Share

Summary

A cropped version of the video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing a public meeting in Siliguri on April 10 during the campaign for Bengal Assembly elections is being shared on social media, which is out of context and misleading.

The Ram Temple construction work has been going on in Ayodhya for a few months. Some opposition parties in Uttar Pradesh, including SP and AAP, have recently leveled land purchase-related allegations.

Amid this, a video shows a centuries-old manuscript kept inside a copper vessel, found during the excavation at Ram Janmabhoomi is going viral on social media.

A Facebook user name Three Dots TV shared the video with a caption "Copper-leaf found during excavation at Ram Janmabhoomi site - even after 488 years, the evidence is coming in our favor.” (Translated from Hindi)

The same post is also viral on Twitter with the same claim.

Fact Check

In our investigation, we found that the viral video is misleading.

After doing reverse image research on Google using keyframes of the viral video, we found that the same video uploaded on an Instagram page ‘define.avcilari’ on April 10, 2020.  No information is given in the title of this video. The page also posts pictures of many rare artifacts, coins, and more.

We noticed that the symbols on the pipe and on the paper seen in the video are of Jewish origin.

Menorah looks like a candle stand that represents the Temple in Jerusalem and also appears in the Emblem of IsraelHamsa looks likes a palm-shaped symbol symbolizing the 'hand of God’. It brings its owner happiness, luck, health, and good fortune.

Inside while opening the page, the first symbol is a Menorah with rampant lions on both sides. And the text is written on the page is in Hebrew, not Sanskrit or Hindi language.

After this we did a keyword search on Google and tried to find out whether any such letter/handwriting was found during the excavation of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya, so we could not find any credible news article about it.

In Conclusion, a video showing centuries-old manuscript kept inside a copper vessel shared with a false claim that it was found during the excavation at Ram Janmabhoomi. The script on the purported manuscript seen in the videos is in Hebrews. No such manuscript has been excavated from the Ram temple site.
