  • Share

Summary

A picture shows patients suffering from typhoid in a village in Maharashtra falsely shared as the situation of the coronavirus outbreak in Gujarat. The people seen in the video are suffering from typhoid and not Covid.

A picture is getting viral on social media in which some patients can be seen lying on the floor with bare minimum medical facilities with a claim that it shows the grim situation of the coronavirus outbreak in Gujarat.

A Facebook user name Syed Hassanul Haque share a post with a claim that "This picture shows corona patients of Gujarat in Tapi district where COVID-19 patients are being treated in tents, the government has built the world’s largest statue and cricket ground, but not a hospital for the poor." ( Translated from Hindi)

Fact check

In our investigation, we found that the viral claim is misleading. We found that the image is from Maharashtra and the patients are suffering from typhoid and not coronavirus.

After doing reverse image research on google we found a news report on Danik Bhaskar published on April 20, 2021, in which the same viral image can be seen. According to a report, the picture shows patients suffering from typhoid on Gujarat-Maharashtra Border which has hit 10-12 bordering villages, where people are being treated under tents as the hospital beds are occupied with coronavirus patients.

We also found a video on Youtube by the Marathi news channel, Navapur Express-News, published on April 20, 2021. As per the description of the video, Navapur: Bring your own bed, apply saline on the tree. Hundreds of patients claim to have been cured. The patients are suffering from typhoid and not coronavirus.

In Conclusion, a picture shows patients suffering from typhoid in a village in Maharashtra falsely shared as the situation of the coronavirus outbreak in Gujarat. The people seen in the video are suffering from typhoid and not Covid.
