The viral letter doing rounds on social media suggesting that National Security Advisor Ajit Doval has appreciated the Uttarakhand government officials for successfully organising the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar is "fake".

A letter in the name of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval appreciating the Uttarakhand government officials for successfully organizing the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar is doing the rounds on social media.

Senior Advocate Prashant Bhushan tweeted the letter with the caption, "NSA Doval, complimenting the Chief Secy Uttarakhand for organizing the Kumbh Mela & unashamedly asking him to promote the RSS ideology!!

The viral letter ends by saying that his efforts for the successful conduct of Kumbh Mela would ensure a religious atmosphere, help to maintain order, and promote Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's ideology in the future as well.

The same post is also getting viral on Facebook. While sharing the letter, a user wrote "NSA Ajit Doval appreciation letter chief secretary on Kumbh Mela. It has been proved that one family is ruling the entire country."

Fact Check

In our investigation, we found that the viral letter is fake. The government officials have called the viral letter claiming to have been written by Ajit Doval as “fake" and the NSA has not written any such letter.

We found a tweet from news agency ANI reporting that "The letter is fake and the NSA has not written any such letter," said the government officials.

After doing research using relevant keywords, we found a similar letter published by a news report in December 2019, wherein Ajit Doval has praised the Uttar Pradesh administration for maintaining peace and harmony in the state post the landmark verdict by the Supreme Court in the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute.

After comparing viral letter with one written on Nov 28, 2019, we found that both the letter contains similar lines with the same sentences but in the viral letter, the word Ayodhya verdict was replaced by Kumbh Mela. The viral letter also includes RSS context. We also noticed some grammatical errors in the letter. Below is a comparison of both letters.

In conclusion, a viral letter that is doing rounds on social media suggesting that National Security Advisor Ajit Doval has appreciated the Uttarakhand government officials for successfully organising the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar is "fake".
