Summary

A disturbing video showing a man murdering his wife in broad daylight in Delhi is being shared with a false claim that a Lucknow-based journalist, Pragya Mishra, has been murdered for speaking about large gatherings at Kumbh Mela amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Visuals of a horrific incident are being widely shared on social media platforms showing a man stabbing a woman in broad daylight with captions claiming that the incident shows the murder of a journalist based in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, Pragya Mishra.

The video was shared on a Facebook page named 'Global News' with a caption saying, "Cctv footage Murderer: Pragya mishra murdered in broad daylight. Because she was talking in news about kumbh mela in the era of cornavirus."

Several other users on Facebook as well as Twitter are sharing the video with the same narrative.

The truth behind the claim

In our investigation, we found this claim to be false. The disturbing visuals are from an incident that was recently reported from Delhi's Rohini, where a man named Harish Mehta repeatedly stabbed and murdered his wife Neelu Mehta in broad daylight, on April 10, 2021. Pragya Mishra also clarified on social media that viral news is fake and that she is safe.

According to an India Today report, the victim, 26-year-old Neelu, worked at the Safdarjung Hospital. Her husband Harish Mehta is an employee of the Marriage Bureau. A case has been registered in this regard against Harish under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Pragya Mishra took to Twitter and clarified that the claim was fake. She wrote, "Friends, due to COVID protocols, I am at my home and completely alive and safe. The news of my murder is a rumor."

In conclusion, a disturbing video showing a man murdering his wife in broad daylight in Delhi is being shared with a false claim that a Lucknow-based journalist, Pragya Mishra, has been murdered for speaking about large gatherings at Kumbh Mela amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
