On February 13, 21-year-old activist Disha Ravi was arrested in connection to Greta Thunberg's toolkit case. Following this, a claim went viral on social media that the activist's full name is 'Disha Ravi Joseph' and she is Christian from Kerala. 

Supreme Court advocate Prashant Patel wrote, "Disha Ravi Joseph is a Syrian Christian from Kerala. Members of this community always at the forefront of Breaking India movements!"

A Facebook user shared a screenshot of a tweet that claimed that Disha is a 'Syrian Christian' from Kerala.

A Twitter user wrote, "Disha Ravi ‘Joseph’ Nikita ‘Jacob’ Shobha Ojha ‘Thomas’ & Temple. Can you see anything common? #Camouflage."

Several social media users are referring to Disha as 'Disha Ravi Joseph' in their posts. 

The truth behind the claim 

In our investigation, we found this claim to be false. 21-year-old activist's full name is not  'Disha Ravi Joseph' and she is a Hindu by religion, not Christian.

We found a news report by The News Minute quoted Ravi’s lawyer as saying that Disha Ravi’s full name is Disha Annappa Ravi and she is a Hindu.

Prasanna R was quoted as saying, "Her mother's name is Manjula Nanjaiah, the father is Ravi Annappa. They are from Tiptur in Tumkur district of Karnataka."

He further added, “Disha's religious identity does not matter here. How is it relevant if she is Christian or Hindu? She is a nature lover and had friends from all over. She has not followed any religion though she was brought up in a Lingayat household. It is unfortunate that we have to debunk this cooked-up religious identity that is being used to spread hatred further.” 

In conclusion, the claim that the 21-year-old activist who has been arrested in Greta Thunberg's tool kit case is a Christian by religion and that her full name is 'Disha Ravi Joseph' is false.
