UP Congress's claim that Narendra Modi's viral poster was inspired by America's former Donald Trump is false. In reality, it was the other way round.
On February 4, Union Minister Smriti Irani tweeted a poster carrying an image of Prime Miniter Narendra Modi with the texts saying, "In reality, they are not after me, they are after you. I am just in the way. " Following this, UP Congress tweeted screenshots of two tweets, one by Donald Trump another one by Smriti Irani, suggesting that Trump's poster has been copied to make the same one Modi.
Sharing the screenshots, UP Congress wrote, "Smriti Irani hasn't got Yale degree just like this."

Several other Facebook and Twitter users have also shared the same screenshots with the same caption.

However, in our investigation, we found this claim to be false. Narendra Modi's poster has been doing rounds on social media since March 2019 while Donald Trump's poster appeared in December 2019. Hence, Trump's poster was inspired by Modi's post and not the other way around.

A Twitter user shared Modi's poster on March 8, 2019.
Journalist Aditya Raj Kaul also put out a tweet saying, "Trump copies 2019 Modi Campaign. Okay. That's new!"

We also found a report by the Times of Israel stating that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also followed the footsteps of Trump and Modi, by imitating and putting out a similar poster.

In conclusion, UP Congress's claim that Narendra Modi's viral poster was inspired by America's former Donald Trump is false. In reality, it was the other way round.
