A video showing Karnataka government officials posing for vaccination on request from the media is being shared with a misleading claim that they were faking the vaccination. They were later vaccinated on the same day.
On January 23, 2021, President of India, Ram Nath Kovind unveiled a portrait of freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose at Rashtrapati Bhavan to commemorate his 125th birth anniversary celebrations.
After that several verified Twitter handles tweeted the portrait of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose being unveiled by Ram Nath Kovind falsely claiming that the portrait unveiled by the President was not of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose but of actor Prosenjeet Chaterjee who played the role of Netaji in Bangla movie 'Gumnaami'.
The same image is also getting viral on Facebook.
In our investigation, we found that the viral claim is false that the painting of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose unveiled at Rashtrapati Bhavan by President Ram Nath Kovind is actually a portrait of Prasenjit Chatterjee who acted as Netaji in a movie.
After doing reverse image research of the portrait unveiled by President Ram Nath Kovind on Google we found a tweet from Chandra Kumar Bose, grandnephew of Subhas Chandra Bose. He said the portrait had been drawn by painter Paresh Maity, a Padma Shri awardee, based on a black-and-white close-up shot of Netaji.
We compared both the images, the one shared by Chandra Kumar Bose, and the portrait of Netaji in Rashtrapati Bhavan, and found both to be similar.
We also found Srijit Mukherji, Director of the Bangla film Gumnaami tweeted the image of Bose and clarify "The following is the picture on the basis of which the painting at Rashtrapati Bhawan was painted by Paresh Maity. For any similarity of Prosenjit's look to this photo, the credit goes to Somnath Kundu."
Prosenjit Chatterjee also tweeted confirming the portrait was of Netaji, "Would like to congratulate Paresh Maity for the wonderful piece of art in remembrance of our National hero Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. As an actor, I’m elated that people thought, that the painting resembles my character in Gumnami, dir. by@srijitspeaketh and prosthetics by Somnath"
In conclusion, the viral claim is false that the painting of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose unveiled at Rashtrapati Bhavan by President Ram Nath Kovind is actually a portrait of Prasenjit Chatterjee who acted as Netaji in a movie. We found that the portrait of Netaji in Rashtrapati Bhavan is not of Prosenjit Chatterjee but Netaji.
