An old image showing tents set up at Kumbh Mela ground is being falsely shared claiming that it shows the world's largest tent city set up at the world's largest protest at the Delhi border.
In the backdrop of the ongoing farmers' protest, an image showing an aerial view of several tents set on the ground is being widely shared on social media claiming that it is from Delhi borders where thousands of farmers have been protesting for five weeks against the center's newly passed agricultural laws.
A Facebook user shared the image with a caption saying, "World's largest Tent City set up at world largest protest at Delhi Border.#FarmersProtest."
Another user also shared the image with a similar claim.
The same image is also doing rounds on Twitter in relation to the farmers' protest.
In our investigation, we found this claim to be false. The viral image is old showing tents set up at Kumbh Mela ground, one of the largest religious conglomerations of India.
With the help of a reverse image search, we found this image carried on a website named e called 'Kerranelamassa' with the title, ''Maha Kumbh Mela, India's largest festival". According to the article, the author clicked the images in 2013.
We also found similar images of tents at Kumbh Mela site on Getty Images. A caption of a similar image on Getty Images reads, ''Maha Kumbh Mela 2013 India, Uttar Pradesh (United Provinces), Allahabad. Maha Kumbh Mela 2013, daily life of the camp, view from the bridge.''
In conclusion, an old image showing tents set up at Kumbh Mela ground is being falsely shared claiming that it shows the world's largest tent city set up at the world's largest protest at the Delhi border.
