No Communal Angle In The Fight Seen In The Viral Video, Ahemdnagar Police clarifies

  • Share

Summary

Ahmednagar Police confirmed that a viral video showing women beaten by armed men is being shared with a false claim. The police have dismissed any communal angle and said that the fight took place due to personal reasons.

A video clip of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is going viral on social media platforms in which he is giving a speech in support of farmers. Along with the video, it is being claimed that Rajnath Singh addressed and supported the ongoing farmers' protest in the national capital against the new agriculture laws.

In the video, Rajnath Singh can be heard saying that he is supporting the protesting farmers and criticizing the Prime Minister for not listening to the farmers. The video is shared with the caption in Hindi that can be roughly translated to, "Breaking news: - Split in BJP on farmer issue!" Rajnath Singh supports the farmers."

Several other users are sharing this video on Facebook with the same claim.

The video is being widely circulated on Twitter with the same claim.

The truth behind the claim

In our investigation, we found this claim to be false. The viral video dates back to March 2013 when Rajnath Singh addressed a protest held by farmers at Jantar Mantar, Delhi.

With the help of reverse image search using the keyframes of the video, we found a longer version of the video uploaded on BJP's official YouTube channel on March 20, 2013.

According to a report published in "The Hindu" on 19 March 2013, thousands of farmers from all over India reached Delhi, demanding a farmers’ income commission to guarantee a minimum livelihood income. BBC also published a report on this.

In conclusion, an old video from 2013 when Rajnath Singh addressed a protest held by farmers at Jantar Mantar, Delhi is being falsely shared as a recent one claiming that Singh came out in support of ongoing farmers' protest against centre's newly passed agricultural laws.
