An old image of Ravish Kumar covering farmers' protest in November 2018, has gone viral with a false claim that he joined the ongoing farmers' protest in Delhi.
Recently, a screenshot of a tweet purportedly by former US President Barack Obama portraying that Obama tweeted a picture of him shaking hands with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and wrote, “Today I am shamefull for a hand shake with this man…. #NarendraModi”.
The screenshot is doing rounds on social media platforms in the backdrop of the ongoing farmers' protest in the country suggesting that Obama has expressed his support for the protest by putting out this purported tweet.
A Twitter user shared the viral image thanking the former US president for supporting the protesting farmers.
Several other Twitter users are sharing this screenshot of a purported by Obama.
The image is also viral on Facebook.
In our investigation, we found this claim to be false. The screenshot of the tweet claimed to have been posted by Barack Obama is fake.
At the look of it, the screenshot appears to be manufactured. The seen tweet carries silly grammatical errors and spelling mistakes. Also, the viral screenshot’s design doesn’t match Twitter’s layout. Below is the comparison between a tweet by Obama and the viral screenshot, which makes it evident that the viral screenshot is digitally made. Also, the number of retweets, quotes, and likes are the same in all the viral screenshots.
We went through Obama's Twitter profile and did not find any tweet by Obama addressing PM Modi on December 5.
With the help of reverse image search, we found the image used in the manufactured viral screenshot is from PM Modi's visit to the US in 2014.
In conclusion, a screenshot of a fake tweet is being falsely shared to show that former US president Barack Obama said that he is ‘ashamed’ to have shaken hands with PM Modi in the backdrop of farmers' protest in India.
