  • Share

Summary

The viral image showing a group of Sikhs holding a banner calling for the restoration of Article 370 and Article 35A is unrelated to the ongoing farmers' protest.

A video is being widely shared on social media platforms in which a large group of Sikhs can be seen marching on a road while some perform acts and a few can also be seen riding horses. The video is being shared with a claim that about twenty thousand Nihang Sikhs are marching toward Delhi along with two thousand horses to take part in the ongoing farmers' protest in Delhi.

The one-minute video was shared on a Facebook page named Kisan with a caption in Hindi saying, "Today 2000 thousand horses and 20000 twenty thousand Nihang Singh are leaving from Punjab for Delhi to support farmers."

At the time of writing this article, this post has received over 100 reshares.

The video is being widely shared on Facebook with the same caption.

On further checking, we found that this video is also doing rounds on Twitter with a similar claim.

The truth behind the claims

In our investigation, we found this claim to be false. The viral video is old and unrelated to the ongoing farmers' protest against the centre's new farm law in Delhi.

With the help of a reverse image search, we found this video uploaded on a YouTube channel named 'Fouj96Crori Soldier96Crori' with the title 'Delhi Fateh Divas 2018 Budha Dal Nihang Singh.' The video was uploaded on July 2, 2020.

On further checking, we found this video uploaded on a YouTube channel on November 16, 2018.

Moreover, we did not any media reports to substantiate the viral claim.

We were not able to independently verify the context of the video, however, it is clear that the viral video is not related to the farmers' protest in Delhi.

In conclusion, the viral video being widely shared claiming that 20,000 Nihang Singhs are marching towards Delhi in support of protesting farmer, is at least 2 years old and is not related to the ongoing farmers' protest in Delhi against the centre's new farm bills.
