Fact Check: Old video falsely shared as CM Ashok Gehlot visiting a mosque

The claim shared with the viral video that Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot visited a Masjid to pray after banning firecrackers in the state is false. The video dates back to January 2019 when Gehlot visited Pir Fakaruddin Baba Dargah in Dungarpur. 

A video of Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is going viral on social media platforms. In the video, Gehlot is wearing a skull cap and is seen walking out of a door with some people. It is being claimed that after banning firecrackers in Rajasthan due to increasing pollution and Coronavirus pandemic, Gehlot went to a mosque to offer Namaz. 

A Facebook user named Sumit Rajput shared the video with the caption in Hindi saying, "Chief Minister Shri Ashok Gehlot prayed in the mosque to stop pollution after banning firecrackers."

Many other Facebook users also sharing the video.

The video was also shared on Twitter with the same caption and the post has been retweeted over 290 times. 

The truth behind the claim 

In our investigation, we found this claim to be false. The video is an old one and dates back to January 2019.

With the help of a relevant keyword search on Google, we found some images tweeted by a Congress MLA in Rajasthan, Rajendra Singh Rawat on January 28, 2019. The caption reads, "With the honorable Chief Minister Shri Ashok Gehlot Ji,  prayed at the Galiakot Dargah in Dungarpur and wished for the prosperity of the country and the state."

First India News Rajasthan also presented a video report which also included the viral video saying CM Ashok Gehlot visited Pir Fakaruddin Baba Dargah. 

Hence, the claim shared with the viral video that Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot visited a mosque to pray after banning firecrackers in the state is false. The video dates back to January 2019 when Gehlot visited Pir Fakaruddin Baba Dargah in Dungarpur.
