An unrelated video of Romania police arresting youth in a metro station on charges of assaulting the police personnel is shared as the French Police attack on Muslims for not wearing a mask in Metro Rail.
Recently, a video is being widely shared on social media platforms allegedly showing French police assaulting Muslims for not wearing masks and spitting on other passengers.
A Facebook user Riya shared the video with the caption, "In Paris Muslims without masks in Metro spit on the other passengers. See what the police did to them."
In the 1-minute-long video, one can see policemen entering into a metro and then dragging out some people and throwing them on the platforms.
This video is viral on Facebook with the same caption.
Several Twitter users are also sharing the video.
In our investigation, we found this claim to be false. The video shows an incident that took place in Romania, and not in France. Romanian police arrested a group of violent football team supporters on charges of assaulting the police personnel and also seized illegal weapons from them.
With the help of reverse image search using the keyframes of the video, we found screengrabs of the video carried by an article published on ‘DIGI 24’ news website, on October 2, 2020. Reportedly, the incident took place in Bucharest city in Romania when Romanian police arrested a group of violent football team supporters on charges of assaulting police personnel who were in charge of managing the crowd at a football match at Dinamo stadium. It is also mentioned that these arrested fans wore smoke guns with several knives that were seized by the Romanian police.
However, there is no information about the religion of the people who were arrested but it is clear that these people were not manhandled by police for not wearing masks or spitting on other passengers.
In conclusion, an unrelated video of Romania police arresting youth in a metro station on charges of assaulting the police personnel is shared as the French Police attack on Muslims for not wearing a mask in Metro Rail.
